Incorporated in Kenya in May 2021, Nazava Water Filters Limited is a Water Purification company dedicated to providing safe and affordable drinking water to the 4.4 billion people that don’t have access to treated water.
Nazava Water Filters Kenya Limited is majority owned by Nazava Water Filters PTE Limited, a private company limited by shares and registered in Singapore. Headquartered in Indonesia, the company is designing, manufacturing and distributing affordable and safe household water filters to empower households to purify their well, rain, river or tap water without the need for boiling using firewood or electricity, targeted to low-income households in rural and peri urban markets.
The idea for Nazava Water Filters Limited was born when the founders experienced the need for safe and affordable water purification solutions whilst working on the recovery after the Tsunami in Indonesia.
Facing the challenge of providing safe drinking water to underserved communities, the team developed innovative and affordable water filters that can be easily used by households without access to reliable water sources that are safe to drink.
Innovation & Impact:
The company’s technology/product provides safe and affordable water purification solutions that are easy to use and maintain, reducing the reliance on traditional methods like boiling water which consume time and resources.
They are making a positive impact by improving access to clean drinking water, reducing waterborne diseases and empowering communities to take control of their water safety.
With a capacity of 16 liters and the ability to filter up to 7,000 liters (roughly 2/3 years of use), the Nazava kit is both affordable and sustainable. It provides ample purified water for various household needs while minimizing the need for frequent replacements.
The company has received different awards and recognition. In 2016, the company won the Ashden Award under the Sustainable energy and water category. In 2013, they also won the Tech Award for technology benefiting humanity and in 2015 Nazava won the Frost & Sullivan – a growth-focused consulting firm and market research agency- Award. In 2024 Nazava won the Best Water Purifier in Kenya by the Kenya Beverages Excellence Awards.

Impact:
29,000 people in Kenya have experienced improved health due to the use of Nazava water filters, resulting in $370,000 in cumulative customer savings through access to clean drinking water at lower costs. Additionally, the filters have contributed to a reduction of 22,000 tons of CO2 emissions by replacing the need to boil water, equating to an accumulative CO2 equivalent. Furthermore, women have saved 139 hours which translates into 3 working weeks of time per filter per year by eliminating the need to seek fuel wood.

Their vision is to expand their reach and impact by providing clean water to more underserved communities and developing innovative solutions for water purification.
