In the face of rising climate challenges, environmental degradation, and increasing demand for sustainable food sources, Shammah Agribiz Limited is redefining the agricultural landscape in Kenya and beyond. Based in Bungoma Kenya, this innovative company is a beacon of hope for smallholder farmers and a driving force behind the global shift towards sustainable farming and commercial forestry. Through cutting-edge biotechnology and a commitment to eco-friendly practices, Shammah Agribiz is delivering revolutionary agricultural solutions that promise long-term sustainability, increased profitability, and a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

At the heart of Shammah Agribiz’s success is its forward-thinking approach to seedling propagation and sustainable farming practices. With strategic support and investment from Kenya Climate Ventures (KCV), the company has established a state-of-the-art tissue culture biotechnology lab, capable of producing over 1,000,000 high-quality seedlings annually. These include certified grafted Hass avocado trees and tissue culture banana seedlings, both known for their superior yields, disease resistance, and positive environmental impact. By providing smallholder farmers with these advanced agricultural products, Shammah Agribiz is not only enhancing food security but also promoting sustainable practices that help mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

Shammah Agribiz’s impact is already being felt across the region. Over the past year, the company has sold 2,500 tissue culture banana seedlings to smallholder farmers and institutions, including county governments, NGOs, and the Kenya Forest Service. Additionally, Shammah Agribiz has sold 820 wood tree seedlings to similar institutions over the past two years, contributing significantly to reforestation efforts and promoting climate resilience. The number of households purchasing tree seedlings stands at 15 in the last year, with five of them being female-headed households, demonstrating the company’s commitment to empowering women in agriculture.

Beyond its environmental impact, Shammah Agribiz is making strides in job creation and gender inclusion. To date, the company has created six jobs, four of which are held by women, further highlighting the company’s focus on empowering female workers in the climate-smart agriculture sector.

“At Kenya Climate Ventures, we are committed to empowering enterprises that are at the forefront of climate-smart solutions. Shammah Agribiz is an outstanding example of the transformative power of sustainable agriculture and commercial forestry in addressing climate challenges and enhancing rural livelihoods. By supporting companies like Shammah Agribiz, we are not only de-risking innovative businesses but also investing in a future where agriculture plays a critical role in environmental conservation, food security, and economic resilience. Together, we are planting the seeds of a greener and more sustainable future for Kenya and beyond,” said the CEO of Kenya Climate Ventures.

KCV’s partnership with Shammah Agribiz Limited underscores a shared vision to advance climate-smart agriculture and commercial forestry across Kenya. By de-risking early-stage enterprises like Shammah Agribiz, KCV is fueling the growth of businesses that are at the forefront of environmental conservation and sustainable development. The company’s production of grafted avocado trees and tissue culture banana seedlings is a cornerstone of this initiative, enabling farmers to adopt climate-resilient crops that reduce deforestation, improve land use, and promote biodiversity.

“Shammah Agribiz Group Ltd appreciates KCV for the affordable loan and technical support partnership. This has enabled our agribusiness to plant and grow grafted hass avocado seedlings in 5 acres of land, employing 3 youths and reaching out to 50 small scale farmers through training and supply of the seedlings hence increasing our impact to food safety systems and climate change initiatives’’ Roy Wafula, CEO & Managing Director.

Through its focus on sustainable agriculture, Shammah Agribiz is playing a pivotal role in Kenya’s reforestation efforts, contributing to global environmental goals by providing an alternative to harmful land-use practices. Each sale of a Hass avocado seedling or tissue culture banana plant represents a step towards reducing deforestation and advancing carbon sequestration. The company’s innovative approach to plantation development not only enhances rural livelihoods but also promotes soil regeneration, organic farming, and integrated pest management systems, all key factors in building a resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.
